For a day that was supposed to be a celebration, there was tension everywhere. The mothers were hovering over everything and the couple seemed...out of it. So Alex was more then happy to leave in the family limo to pick up Wren. His mother had kept hinting about who Alex was bringing and he decided to keep it a surprise. After The Cove's reports, he had a feeling she already knew, but he wanted to keep it himself to a little bit longer.
After Wren's reaction to the blue suit at his concert, Alex had decided to wear blue again. He had a simple mask in his pocket that his mother would no doubt insist he wear once they arrived but for now, he felt a little silly.
Letting the limo wait outside, Alex moved to ring Wren's door bell and wait. He knew he was welcome inside but it just felt right at that moment.

Thanksgiving was an odd thing to think about while sitting on Wren's couch with a wine glass in his hand and what he suspected was the beginning of a hickey on his collar but that's what was going through Alex's mind. Corrine had sent out an invite for a Thanksgiving dinner for the Cabots and Flynns, plus dates. Significant others. Close, personal friends. He'd been debating all day on asking Wren but that felt like they were defining things, things that had finally gotten back to what they considered normal after Halloween. As normal as sitting on Wren's couch drinking wine after stories and music had turned into heavy petting and making out.
Finally, he took a deep breath for courage and raised his voice to reach Wren in the kitchen where he was getting a new bottle of wine. "Do you have any plans for Thanksgiving?" He asked, figuring it was the best place to start.

[Circle of Sirens] Research; Open
Nov. 17th, 2014 08:50 pmBesides people disappearing, things had seemed rather normal for Siren Cove. Yes, the disappearances were alarming, especially with Corry worrying over Les, but Alex didn't think there was anything he could do about it besides keep an eye and ear out.
That was until he went for a swim that morning. He hadn't stretched his fins properly since the party he'd revealed them to Wren and now that things were better between them, it was about time. He had his sweats on with a gym bag over his shoulder as he headed for his favorite swimming hole when he wandered into a fog. The fog itself wasn't odd...but how it made him feel did. The feeling of drawing him in and working against his own innate siren magic...he wouldn't be much of a siren expert if he couldn't recognize a siren song when he walked into one.
His swim was completely forgotten as he returned to Will's and got his laptop and research notes. Somewhere, he knew he'd studied a clan who siren song had to do with fog but he couldn't remember where. Unable to concentrate, he headed to The Quill, then to library set to figure out what he thought might be a lead to the town disappearances. Hopefully, he'd be able to text Corry and Lara some good news or at least have something to bring to the meeting tomorrow night.
[Catch Alex getting a caffeine fix or at the library in research mode. He's going to be pretty distracted regardless]

Halloween Part Two (For Wren)
Oct. 30th, 2014 01:01 amWell, it wouldn't be a Siren Cove Halloween without something going wrong and this blackout was proving challenging. Alex as just glad that he really hadn't had anything pressing to do besides handing out candy with his brother.
After the black out they still got some trick or treaters so they kept up their little Thor and Loki show. But finally, as night was starting to set in, they got a small Captain America in tears knocking on their door. He'd gotten lost from his group and now was turned around in the dark so didn't know how to get home.
Alex thankfully recognized the boy and knew the way to his house. Since nothing seemed to be working, he hoisted the young Cap on his shoulders and with a flashlight in hand, set off to return the boy home, all the while staying in character as Loki to make the little boy laugh.

Halloween Part One (For Will)
Oct. 29th, 2014 11:27 pmIn truth, Alex hadn't really been all that into the idea of Halloween. He hadn't been in the US for Halloween for the bast couple years and it just didn't have the same appeal over seas. Couple that with his subdued mood of the past few weeks and the holiday just didn't really have any appeal.
What Alex didn't count on was his brother and his insistence that he needed a brother for his costume. When he tried to point out that Will in fact had two other brothers he could bother, he was met with the argument that neither of them had the talent with words that the God of Lies needed to have in spades. There was more to it, but that was how Alex agreed to dress up as Loki to Will's Thor as they handed out candy for trick or treaters at Will's home.
It turned out actually being a lot of fun. He played up before the proper, intense Loki to Will's goofy Thor and they made the kids laugh. He even pretended to be defeated by the kids if they recognized him as villain while Will handed out candy. It was fun and silly and just what he needed, playful time with his brother, who he'd really missed while he as off eloping.
After shutting the door on another bunch of trick or treaters, Alex collapsed on the couch with a gasping breath before looking over his shoulder at Will. "Alright, I will admit. This is fun."

OOC: Participation concerns
Sep. 29th, 2014 11:32 pmI admit, I'm having some concerns about my participation in this game.
I'm not sure if it's my schedule making my tagging slow or that I'm in a different time zone but I feel like I have yet to have very many significant threads. They seem to be dropped before they go anywhere. People seem to move on very quickly to the next thing and old threads are forgotten within a day or so, which makes it very difficult to create any plot or significant relationships. I have honest concerns on if I can keep up with a game like this and it's causing me some extreme anxiety. I really don't want to sound dramatic, but it starts to wear on someone when it seems like their threads are constantly being dropped or forgotten in the face of some of the epic thread lengths I've seen. And it seems to be not just me either. It makes it hard to really get involved for new people.
I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I am enjoying Alex and some parts of the game but my mental health is really starting to be affected by this and I'm having enough issues in that regard without a hobby adding to it. It's part of the reason I've had to take a hiatus from twitter and making me hesitant to tag new things.
I'm really open to figuring out what to do because I'd like to stay, but if it's my schedule, there isn't much I can do about that and I guess I'd like to know sooner rather then later.

To be perfectly honest, Alex was doing everything possible to stay out of the Cabot family house. It's not that he wasn't happy to see and spend time with his family, it was just getting to be too much after so long on his own. His parents were both being overly polite for different reasons, the Senator feigning interest in his work and his mother wanting him to be social with her, and his younger brothers were just being brothers. He thought he would be able to handle it for the duration of his supposed short stay in Siren Cove, but he was finding himself reluctant to think about leaving again. Despite his family and what not, it was good to be home. Perhaps it was time he started thinking about an apartment of his own...
In an effort to get some alone time, he'd decided swimming was in order. He'd taken a lengthy swim in his siren form down the coast, really stretching his fins like he hadn't in a long time. Getting caught up in his work, he'd forgotten how good it felt. Being in home waters was only a bonus.
Now, dressed in board shorts and a t-shirt with a messenger bag full of his stuff from the beach, he was wandering through town to find an excuse not to go home just yet. Shops that had been there forever were browsed and new ones were explored. And just when he was getting hungry, he stopped in front of a newish sushi restaurant with an...interesting name.
"Salmon-chanted Evening?" Alex couldn't help laughing out loud. "This I have to try." He said to himself as he went inside to sit at the bar.
[Find Alex anywhere in town or join him for lunch. He may even be pursued for another swim.]

Backdated for Will
Aug. 8th, 2014 01:31 amHonestly, Alex didn't know how this had all happened. In all his travels to many countries and cultures around the world, never had a misunderstanding like this occurred. And now he would have to suffer the consequences. He only hoped Cam had gotten back to Borneo safely with their research and could find help. The sooner the better or he would soon be in even deeper trouble, of the matrimonial kind.
At the moment, he was sitting patiently in a ridiculous native outfit that consisted of a long loin cloth of colorful woven material and decorations of woven reeds, stone/bone beads and brightly colored flowers. His chest was bare except for a thick collar necklace that matched the ornaments on his wrist and ankles. Flowers and beads had been woven into his curly hair, much to the delight of the young men who had been tasked to prepare him for his wedding. He was sitting patiently with his teeth gritted as a man tattooed a band around his upper arm of stylistic waves, sea turtles and whale tails. The mark of the man betrothed to the future leader of the Sirena. To distract himself from the pain, he thought back on how he'd gotten into this mess in the first place.
--
While visiting with a siren clan in Borneo, just from Borneo as the sirens were private and claimed no citizenship of any of the three countries making up the island, Alex and Cam learned about a small, traditional clan of sirens living on a small island in the Philippines. They were supposedly direct descendants of the Sirena, the water deities who supposedly all humans in Indonesia were descended from. The matriarch of the Borneo clan warned against them seeking out the island, citing that the clan still followed many ancient traditional customs, including kidnapping travelers and drowning sailors that got near their island. She especially warned Alex in particular but neither he nor Cam could figure out why.
Finally, they said goodbye to the Borneo clan and decided that it would be a waste to come all the way out here and not attempt to make contact with the Sirena. Looking back, Alex wish they had heeded the matriarch's warning, but instead they used Alex's money to hire a boat and supplies to look for the uncharted island. Following local myths and reports of mysterious drownings, they were able to find the island. The Sirena were guarded but once Alex revealed his true form to them, they allowed the two researchers to come ashore. The second mistake Alex had made was not listening to Cam, who had pointed out how interested the Sirena were in him in particular. Alex had taken it as him being a full siren, while Cam was only half, and put it out of his mind.
They were welcomed by the tribe after that and were more then open to share their traditions with the researchers. Alex didn't know why they Borneo matriarch had felt the need to warn them off. At least, he didn't until a week into their stay when they were eating dinner in the main meeting house. The daughter of the matriarch, Dyesebel, offered Alex a desert, a sweet cake served in a carved coconut. Cam told him afterwards that the entire tribe had gone silent and watched him take a bite, then cheered once he'd swallowed. Confused, Alex turned to Dyesebel, who had taken his hand in hers to ask what was going on. Instead, he was urged by the matriarch to give his newly betrothed a kiss. Needless to say, that did not go over well.
Once everything had settled down, Dyesebel and her parents took Alex and Cam into a private hut to explain. Due to keeping their clan secluded on this island, their powers had decreased over the generations. When an engkanto, a tall, powerful siren with blue eyes, fair complexion and golden hair, had come to their island, they had taken it as a sign from the gods that their tribe would be able to return to their full glory. Alex had to admit, he fit the description pretty well but insisted he couldn't stay, he had work and family to return to. But the Sirena took offense and threatened Cam's life if Alex didn't stay and marry Dyesebel. Seeing no other option, Alex agreed, but did not allow any wedding preparation to begin until Cam and their research was safely away from the island. He remembered watching the boat disappear over the horizon with a grim finality.
--
Now, only a few short days later, Alex was preparing for his wedding day. At sundown, he would wed the future matriarch of the Sirena, unless help arrived. Considering it was midday now, Alex didn't hold out much hope. Excitement was buzzing through the tribe and he wished he could feel some of it, even if it was false. The marriage of the future matriarch and the engkanto was going to be the thing of myths and legends.
After spending his whole life studying myths, Alex wasn't so keen to become one.

Plotting For Alex Cabot
Aug. 5th, 2014 01:49 pm

( Facts about Alex )
- Third Cabot son, from one of the eldest, richest families in Siren Cove the Cabot's are an old, political family with heavy ties to the Sirens.
- Father was a Senator and mother is on the committee to many charitable organizations
- He grew up in Siren Cove so he'll know any long time residents
- But he's been gone for about 6 years for post-grad schooling, only occasionally coming home for holidays or quick trips so newer people will need to introduce themselves
- He is not as prone to loosing his shirt as Will, but it happens
- He's charming to everyone, but quieter then his brother and he has never been one for long relationships, especially after he left for school.
- He can be found often times in the coffee shop when he's working on his research, preferring the noisy atmosphere to concentrate (And loves to be interrupted by people other then his parents)
- Will be living at the Cabot estate with in his parents home for now
- He is one of the powerful sirens in the family, with his powers making people want to talk to him. As a child, he used his powers unconsiously and made people talk to him all the time so he got the reputation for being quiet since he could never get a word in. This changed when it was realized it was his powers doing this and he got them under control, but the reputation stuck. He can sway people's opinions and ideas if he uses his powers while storytelling.
- He also loves to tell stories, any stores, true or completely myth, just for fun.
- He is studying siren culture (or to the outside world the origins of the siren/mermaid myth) from around the world so if your character is an international siren, I'd love to talk to you about whatever background culture you created.
- He has a research assistant named Cameron 'Cam' Bradley, who is half-siren, and was traveling with him (appable if someone wanted). Cam is now back at home for his own vacation but Alex texts and e-mails him constantly when he's working
- His siren form is based on the black and white striped leopard shark from Florida, as it's known for being curious and non-agressive. All Cabot sirens have a shark based siren form.
- He has a tattooed band around his upper arm of stylistic waves, sea turtles and whale tails. It's the mark of the man betrothed to the future leader of the Sirena, a fate Will saved him from, thankfully.
